There are many different ways to create a sock; in this pattern I’ll give you the basics for creating a toe up sock with a short-row heel and toe.
You will notice that I’ve also added a gusset at the instep as I find that socks with a gusset have a better fit.
If you have low instep then you can omit the gusset increases and decreases.
Size
To fit foot circumference up to: 8 1/2 (9 1/2, 10 1/2)” (21.5 24, 26.5cm).
Actual Sock Circumference: 7 1/2 (8 1/2, 9 1/2)” (19 21.5, 24cm).
Size 7 1/2” (19cm) modeled with 1” (2.5cm) negative ease.
Materials
Yarn
1 (1, 1) skein Bare Naked Wools Breakfast Blend Fingering, 50% merino, 40% alpaca, 10% nylon, 4oz (115g), 425yds (389m), color, Oatmeal.
Needles & Notions
1 US size 1 1/2 (2.5mm) circular needle, 40” (100cm) long for magic loop
1 US size 0 (2mm) circular needle, 40” (100cm) long for cuff
or
1 set US size 1 1/2 (2.5mm) double-point needles
1 set US size 0 (2mm) double-point needles for cuff
Adjust needle size as necessary to achieve gauge.
Tapestry needle, waste yarn, crochet hook for provisional cast-on Size B (2.25mm).
Gauge
32 stitches and 44 rows = 4” (10cm) in stockinette stitch
40 stitches and 44 rows = 4” (10cm) in pattern
