This pattern was developed to answer a design challenge using a stitch pattern, “Coquilles Capelet,” provided by Shirley Paden. The challenge was to design a capelet with given shape and dimensions. Any or all of the elements of the stitch pattern could be utilized, and any other stitch pattern could be used in conjunction with the given pattern. My intent was for the finished garment to be an easy yet elegant capelet while lifting the formality of the outfit with which it is worn. Sounds like a tall order, but lace typically achieves that as a matter of course. Aria is a visually light garment which feels more substantial than the average shoulder shawl due to the addition of a beaded hemline.

Aria was designed modularly. This means you may use any or all of the stitch modules/charts to customize your capelet. There are 5 stitch charts (each 19 stitches wide and 8 rows high). They can be alternated, stacked, or repeated. This pattern is structured to allow you to be your own designer!
