Armadale Scarf
The Seaman’s Scarf is designed to fit closely and high over the back of the neck while spreading out flat across the chest under a coat. The neck is ribbed and the sides are wide to lay flat providing warmth and beauty. The provisionally cast on edge is at the left edge of the neck ribbing. The left side is worked, then the cast on edge is picked up again and the neck and right side of the scarf is knit. Alternate instructions are included for modern scarves which are longer, without ribbing and worn outside a coat. The modern scarf is knit from one end to the other end.
This pattern is available via Ravelry as part of an ebook. The entire collection originally included in A Collection of Small Knitting Projects Inspired by Historical Stitches from Britain, Ireland, and Scotland, is available as a digital download via my Etsy shop, martaschmarta. The 80 page book includes all the patterns in the Ravelry e-books and extra content.
These patterns are for the intermediate knitter.
