Astoria Socks
by Anne Berk
Astoria is a coastal town where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean. The Astoria Column stands 600 feet (183 meters) above sea level and offers beautiful views of the coastline. Constructed in 1926, it has a spiral design that is echoed in these socks.
This project is designed to be a first “in the round” (ITR) sock project. The diagonals to the left are identical to the ones knitted in the beginning workshops and will be familiar. If you want to do something different for the second sock, knit the swirls in the opposite direction. Bust your stash by working each stripe a different color, or vary the color patterning to your whim.
