Atmos Cardigan
Chic, yet versatile – the Atmos Cardigan is a longer, tunic-length garment that adds the warmth of an extra layer in effortless style. Worked from the bottom up in one piece to the armholes, Atmos is then split to work the front and back panels separately. The button bands are worked simultaneously with the rest of the cardigan while the pockets are placed in the center of the Diamond Cables running up the fronts. The slightly puffed cap sleeves are picked up from the armholes and are shaped with short rows. Finally, Atmos is finished off with a folded ribbed collar.
Specific Yarn Requirements:
Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Bulky (100% Wool; 137 yards/100g): Wallaby 25775, 6 (7, 8, 9, 9, 10, 11, 12, 12) skeins.
Or, 822 (920, 1015, 1125, 1220, 1345, 1425, 1535, 1645) yds/ 750 (840, 930, 1030, 1115, 1230, 1305, 1405) m of a bulky weight yarn
Needles:
US 10 (6mm) 30-60” circular needles (length needed depends on size), or size to obtain gauge in cable patt and St st
US 9 (5.5mm) 30-60” circular needles (length needed depends on size), or size to obtain gauge in ribbing patt
Same size (smaller) needles preferred for working a small circumference in the round (dpns, two circulars, long circular for Magic Loop, etc.)
Gauge:
17 sts and 21 rows = 4” in cable patterns on larger needles, blocked
14 sts and 20 rows = 4” in Stockinette Stitch on larger needles, blocked
14 sts and 20 rows = 4” in 2x2 Ribbing on smaller needles, blocked
Vest Version
For the vest version of this cardigan, simply follow the pattern as written but leave out one repeat of the cable pattern in the Body (in other words, work until you have repeated Rows 1-36 of the Diamond Cable only two times, rather than three). Work the upper body and armholes exactly as written in the pattern, then leave off the sleeves.
Yarn Requirements for Vest:
Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Bulky (100% Wool; 137 yards/100g): Wallaby 25775, 5 (6, 7, 7, 8, 9, 9, 10) skeins.
Or, 685 (765, 845, 935, 1015, 1115, 1185, 1275, 1365) yds/ 625 (700, 775, 855, 930, 1020, 1085, 1165, 1250) m of a bulky weight yarn.
ERRATA:
8/24/15 -- The following errors were found in the pattern:
1. On the first page of the pattern directions (page 3 of patt), in the left hand column, the Plait Cable should be “worked flat over a multiple of 9 sts” rather than “a multiple of 4 sts”.
-
On page 4, at the top of the right hand column, 2nd and 3rd lines down in the row that sets up the cables, the number of purls at the end of that row is wrong for some sizes. It should be “p1 (2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4)” rather than “p1 (2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4)”.
-
3 paragraphs down from there, the purls are wrong at the end of the first cable row, in the Right Front. The portion after the last SM should read “SM, p1 (3, 7, 11, 4, 9, 10, 14, 16), work Row 1 of Plait Cable 0 (0, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1) time(s), p0 (0, 0, 0, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4), work Row 1 of Diamond Cable, p1 (2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4), work Row 1 of Plait Cable, p1 (2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4), k2, p4, k2.”
This was updated in v2 of the pattern, which has been uploaded to Ravelry.
