Scowl, you say? That doesn’t sound very positive. But, in this case, it absolutely is. It is the name I give to my designs that can be worn either as scarf or as a cowl—scowl! This lovely, fun-to-knit lace design has a buttoned closure, so it can be buttoned and worn as a cowl, twisted and then buttoned for a moebius cowl, wrapped around the neck twice before buttoning to be worn as a neck warmer (need two skeins for that!), or left unbuttoned and worn as a scarf. Knit it as short or as long as you like--So versatile! The pattern calls for Knit Picks Palette Bare, explaining the design’s name—au Naturel, but you can use any fiber or yarn weight you want (changing needle size as appropriate). This is the featured pattern for the CBD “a KAL to DYE for” pattern for June 2017. Dye your yarn prior to knitting or, if you prefer, when you finish your scowl, wear it as-is, or dye it to suit. Additionally, I am using an enlightened form of charting, as I will explain in the pattern. This chart is more intuitive, more straightforward and, candidly, easier to follow than conventional charts.
