In this design, I wanted to experiment with a diagonally traveling stitch pattern. I selected a simple lace pattern that is easy to memorize and not so complex as to obscure the strong diagonal tracks. The Looking Glass colorway reminded me of swimming pools, and, combined with the diagonal lace panels, the sweater brought to mind the spray of a water fountain. As a small child, I loved throwing pennies in a water fountain located in a shopping center in a town called Auburn. I have named the sweater after this fountain.
