Autumn Leaves Socks by Cecilia Losada – CeciLo

These top-down socks are inspired by the colors of autumn and the quiet beauty of falling leaves. The Autumn Leaves Socks feature a decorative colorwork motif on the leg combined with a classic sock construction that makes them both enjoyable to knit and comfortable to wear.

The socks begin with a Tubular Cast On followed by a stretchy ribbed cuff. The leg showcases the autumn leaves colorwork pattern, after which the sock continues with a smooth stockinette foot. The heel is shaped using short rows with the Wrap & Turn method that I learn from Donna Druchunas, creating a clean and comfortable fit around the heel.

The toe is finished with Kitchener Stitch bind off for a seamless result.

This pattern includes step-by-step video tutorials to guide you through the most important techniques, including Magic Loop knitting, colorwork tension, short row heels, and Kitchener stitch.

The pattern includes three sizes and the length of the leg and foot can easily be adjusted to perfectly fit your foot.

Finished Measurements

Foot circumference after blocking:

  • 6″, 7.3″, 8.7″
  • 15 cm, 18.5 cm, 22 cm

These are the measurements of the sock.

Socks are designed to be worn with negative ease for a comfortable and snug fit. Choose a size approximately 1–2 cm smaller than your actual foot circumference.

The leg and foot length can be easily customized by knitting additional rounds.

Yarn

Fingering weight yarn

Suggested yarn used in the sample:

  • Meia – Rosários4
  • 70% merino wool, 30% polyamide
  • 50 g / 185 m / 202 yd

Colors used:

  • C1 – Brown
  • C2 – Natural
  • C3 – Honey Yellow

You will not use the entire skeins, so you will have enough yarn left to knit another pair or experiment with striped socks using the same pattern without the colorwork chart.

Needles

  • US 1 / 2.25 mm or 2.5 mm circular needles
  • Magic Loop method is recommended using an 80 cm / 32″ cable.

You may also knit the socks using short circular needles or DPNs if you prefer.

Notions

  • Stitch marker for beginning of round
  • Auxiliary stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle
  • Row counter (optional but recommended)

Gauge

16 sts x 24 rnds = 5 cm / 2″
in stockinette stitch in the round after blocking.

Gauge was measured on the sole of the sock.

Because the pattern includes a colorwork section, it is recommended to swatch both colorwork and stockinette stitch to ensure the same tension.

Video Tutorials Included

This pattern includes video tutorials to support the instructions, including:

  • How to knit in the round
  • Magic Loop technique
  • German Twisted Cast On
  • Tubular Cast On in the round
  • Colorwork tension and catching floats
  • Short row heel using Wrap & Turn
  • Kitchener Stitch bind off

The videos are in Spanish but can easily be followed visually and with automatic subtitles in English.

  • Calcetines tejidos de arriba hacia abajo (cuff-down)

Materiales

  • Hilado sugerido: Meia – Rosários4
  • Calibre: Fingering
  • 50 g / 185 m / 202 yd por ovillo

Agujas

  • Agujas circulares 2.25 mm (US 1) o 2.5 mm
