Autumn scene beanie
Inspired by the changing leaves of fall, the autumn scene beanie is both a stylish and fun accessory. Featuring very basic colorwork, it is an ideal project for anyone looking to try out fair isle for the first time. And better still, with a motif that has no long sections of a single colour, the need to worry about constantly catching floats is completely eliminated.
Have fun trying out all sorts of fun colour combinations. With a project like this that whips up in under two hours, the sky’s the limit.
Sizing:
Circumference: 20”, stretches to 25”
Length: 8.5” unstretched
This beanie will fit the average sized adult head.
Note: This pattern provides options for either a fitted or a slouchy fit. There are also instructions given on how to modify for smaller heads or accommodate for gauge.
Gauge: 11.5sts x 14 rows = 4” in stranded colour work
Skill level: Intermediate
Yarn: 140 meters (153 yards) in two colours of an Aran / worsted weight yarn. The sample shown is knit using “The petit wool” by We are knitters in the colours “ochre” for colour A and “Taupe” for colour B. For the best results, it is recommended to use two colours with high contrast.
Note about yarn: This hat was made holding two strands of worsted weight yarn to achieve a super bulky gauge. You can choose to work with a single strand of super bulky yarn, in which case you will only need 70 meters (75 yards) of each colour.
Needles: 8mm (US 11) 16” circular needles for ribbing
10mm (US 15) 16” circular needles, or as needed to match gauge
10 mm Double pointed needles / Long 10mm circular needle suitable for magic loop technique
