This cosy poncho, perfect for chilly autumn and winter days, features a lace stitch worked in aran-weight wool. It is knitted sideways as a large rectangle, with garter stitch edges, and then seamed along the top, leaving an opening for the head.

First published in The Knitter issue 156. Sample was knitted in Gorgeous Yarns Purely Gorgeous 100% British Corriedale Wool Aran in Crush-me-sloe which is no longer available.

Materials:
Aran weight (175m/191yds per 100g skein) x 5 (6, 7) skeins. Re yarn amount: the smallest size used 407g in total, only 7g of the 5th skein. One or two fewer repeats can be worked.
5.5mm (UK 5/US 9) circular needles (80cm/32in long)

Notes Regarding Size:
The poncho is worked sideways so the depth reflects the number of stitches cast on. To choose which size to knit, decide the depth you would like and how long you would like the poncho to be. The poncho will be folded in half lengthwise and seamed leaving a hole for the head. You can mix different cast-on numbers (depth) with repeats worked (length) to create a custom fit poncho.

Tension:
15.5 sts and 19.5 rows over 10cm/4in in Chart after blocking.
Exact tension is not essential but a difference in tension may affect the final size and amount of yarn used.
