Azteca
Mexico has always had an influence on my design work – dating from my first visits in the 1970s. The impact of the Aztecs on Mexican culture has been significant – including in its art and traditions. Some of the elements in the three mosaic designs used in this pattern reflect that influence. As the shawl is worked in garter stitch, I would consider it a good introduction to colorwork knitting for advanced beginners.
I used the following yarn amounts for this relatively large-sized shawl:
Bernini MERINO WOOL (50 grams, 150 meters, 100% Merino wool): 1 skein of #02 (Color A); 5 skeins of #24 (Color B); 2 skeins of #06 (Color C); 1 skein of #10 (Color D); and 3 skeins of #12 (Color E)
Please note that this yarn is from China and may be difficult to find. I encourage you to substitute a fingering weight yarn that will yield the specified gauge – and in your choice of colors to create the contrast you seek.
