YARN: 4, (5, 6, 6, 7, 7) skeins of Expression Fiber Arts Alpaca Silk DK yarn (100 g/230 yds per skein), shown in colorway: Evergreen. If that color isn’t available, any shades from this category will work.

SIZES: S, (M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL)/ 34”, (38”, 42”, 46”, 50”, 54”). Sizes listed are actual bust measurements. There is plenty of positive ease, so if you’re in between bust measurements, you might want to go down to the nearest size. Shown in size S.

NEEDLES:US size 7 (4.5 mm) straight or circular needles (or size to make gauge), plus an additional needle of the same size for three-needle BO. US size 6 (4.0 mm) DPNs or small circulars for sleeves and 24” or longer circular needle for neck/front trim (or one size smaller than needle used to make gauge).

Notes From the Designer:

•As the days grow shorter and the mornings and evenings grow cooler, let Azusa be your first choice layering piece for grabbing coffee, walking the dog, or running errands.

•Dolman shaping provides a generous fit, and a silk and alpaca blend yarn drapes beautifully for this piece, which you’ll want to snuggle in all season long.

•Azusa is knit from the bottom up in pieces. The shoulders/sleeves are joined using the three-needle BO, and the underarms are seamed with mattress stitch. A simple trim is worked at the shorter sleeve cuffs and around the neckband. This is a great piece for newer garment knitters, as well as more experienced garment knitters looking for a quicker project.

•The simplicity of the stockinette body and the larger needle size for the body make for a fairly quick knit, and provide a canvas that will allow any color to shine. This piece would look great in a solid, tonal, or even variegated yarn!

•Azusa and Mio are both named after characters from a manga called K-on!, which is about a group of girls who form a band called Afterschool Tea Time as part of their school’s Light Music Club. Mio, the bassist, is a little older than Azusa, one of the guitarists, who looks up to her as a hard working senpai, or senior. I consider these patterns my version of Mio and Azusa. Azusa is a great starter piece in a heavier yarn, while Mio is a little more sophisticated in terms of texture and worked at a finer gauge. I think of Azusa as the little sister who wants to emulate big sis Mio, but she still has her own flair and characteristics. Knit both patterns and you have a great start on your own Afterschool Tea Time wardrobe!

•When working with hand-dyed yarns, alternating skeins is highly recommended to avoid color pooling or striping.
