Baby Kimono Slippers
Cute little Kimono Shoes for Baby. Easy to make and cozy to wear.
Best yarns for this design are pure wool or wool/alpaca mix. The recommended yarn is Drops ‘Nepal’ by Garn Studio - beautiful to work with and comes in amazing colours.
Best substitute yarn would be Cascade 220 Superwash Aran. It’s a little softer, so your size may come out marginally smaller. You may need a slightly larger hook, so always check your gauge before you begin.
A good budget alternative would be Lion Brand ‘Vanna’s Choice’. This is a little thicker than the recommended yarn, so size will come out a bit larger than the dimensions specified.
Whichever yarn you choose, make sure that it’s got a good ‘bloom’, ie., that it’s thick and soft. A thin, hard acrylic yarn won’t give good results.
Crochet tight for these little cuties! Hence the small hook size (3.5mm). If you’re a loose crocheter, work slowly and keep your stitch close to the hook as possible - it will give a nicer result.
Pattern level is intermediate beginner. You’ll need to have read crochet patterns before and be familiar with all basic stitches, increases and decreases, and the relevant pattern terminology. the pattern has lots of photos so it’s pretty easy to follow, and very quick to make for a practiced hand.
Written for 3 sizes: 0-6 months, 6-12 months and 12-18 months.
It is optional, but instructions are included for adding a button and loop to the slippers. I addded this because babies that are walking need to have slippers that will stay securely on the foot. It’s not necessary to add the buttons to the smaller sizes.
AMERICAN TERMINOLOGY USED THROUGHOUT.
