Smoke curls up into the tree branches from the firepit’s embers as the last of late evening’s sun crawls slowly across the grass. Each marshmallow, perched neatly at the end of a whittled pine stick--fallen, of course--is slowly turned over the warmth. Soon, blooms of golden-ochre toast the curves of each end. Acoustic guitar notes drift lazily on currents of humidity across the water. As the s’mores are pressed together, the evening winds down and the mourning dove signals the setting of the sun.
