Knit this beloved character and his little mouse friends!

Most of the Bagpuss pieces are knitted in stripes; to save space in writing up the pattern the stripe sequence is given at the start of each pattern piece. Keep a note of which row you are on, or use a row counter. To mark stitches for making up, use locking stitch markers or thread a length of waste yarn through the stitch and tie the ends loosely so it can be removed later. You may find it handy to use different coloured markers or waste yarn, and make a note of the colours used so you can identify them when making up.
