Ballan is a colour work hat based on a sunflower that I was lucky to encounter in my travels last summer.

The stylised sunflower that sits on the crown of the hat features simple stranded colour work petals around a textured centre.

The design is worked seamlessly from crown to band in the round using two or more colours.

Choose colours with good contrast for a realistic representation of the sunflower the design is based on or use your favourite flower colours for a fun addition to your winter wear.

Design may be knit as either a fitted or slouchy hat

The simple colour work and cables make this pattern good for adventurous knitters wanting to try new techniques

Colour A - 95-130m/105-140 yards
Colour B - 20-35m/20-40 yards
