ELEMENTS FROM traditional Shetland knitting are visible in this pretty top by Mary Henderson. It’s a short-sleeved design with a square neckline, and a fabric combining colourful garter stitch stripes with a lace stitch pattern. The top is knitted using Palette, the 4ply Peruvian Highland wool from Knit Picks.

Front and back are worked separately and joined at shoulder with three-needle-bind-off. Sleeves are picked up at armhole and knitted downwards back and forth. Side and underarm seams are then joined with mattress stitch.
