Balletneck Sweater
This sweater is a design from my book Crochet That Fits. The pattern has NO increases or decreases, and it’s an Advanced Beginner project! Everyone says this sweater looks knitted. Click on the photo to see a close up.
This book was actually voted “Best Crochet Pattern Book of 2008” in the Flammie awards! But don’t let that scare you! The designs are still very in style. One exception is that you may want to make this sweater & maybe the Cap Sleeve Top a little longer by adding to the length of the beginning chain. Instructions for this are in the book.
Update:
Some people said in their notes that their sweater turned out big and someone said the gauge was off. The gauge is not off. I noticed that the yarn some used was a worsted wt- # 4 or Aran weight, but the pattern calls for DK wt - # 3. which is a smaller yarn. If you use a worsted or Aran (#4) yarn (larger than a dk - #3) then your sweater definitely will be too big. It’s imperative that you use the same size yarn I used (the yarn recommended on the book), if you want it to fit like it does on the model. I made the size small sweater as the original for the book and it is not too big at all for the size small model wearing this in the book. Also, the girl wearing it here as my main photo (picture I took myself) is a size small & it’s not too big at all. And remember, if you use a larger yarn, your sweater will not only be too big, but it will also be bulkier.
This sweater does stretch (drapable) and it’s roomy, but you can make it more fitted by deleting rows. That’s what’s great about the vertical method of crocheting garments.
