About this Pattern
Back in 2019 my husband and I were on a trip to Banff National Park in Canada. The scenery that greeted us was breathtaking, as was the freezing temperature! One day we took a short walk from our Hotel into the town; it was magical being surrounded by the quiet, rugged Rocky Mountains whilst crunching fresh, crisp footprints in the newly fallen snow. We were dressed in so many layers (and hand-knits ) that we waddled along like penguins. It was so cold that even our eyelashes froze that day!
The Banff Springs shawl is worked from the top down with wings of relaxing stockinette that grow from a pretty lace pattern running down the centre spine. This pattern invites you to enjoy the quiet stillness and simplicity of the smooth-as-snow stockinette, whilst keeping things interesting with a path of eye-catching lace down the centre.
This pattern works beautifully in a solid or a semi-solid yarn as it lets the lace pattern take centre stage. It can be worked as a one or two skein project, instructions on how to make the shawl larger are given in the pattern. But whichever version you choose, this shawl makes the perfect layering piece to keep you nice and warm no matter how cold it gets!

Pattern Testimonials
“A delightful knit with some interesting lacework detailing; perfect for those wanting to venture into some lacework whilst having plenty of stockinette to complement and showcase the detail. I really enjoyed the knit and love my shawl - I have the perfect person in mind to gift it to for Christmas. Thank you Jem for another fabulous pattern” – Blair
“This is a really lovely simple but interesting knit. Great for someone new to knitting who wants to explore lace. Or a perfect knit night pattern for the more experienced knitter where you can chat and knit and not lose track!” – Holly
“An ideal shawl for a beginner as there is just a short central lace section, which is not at all complicated. The large area of stocking stitch makes this a perfect TV knit. Very straightforward pattern and a pleasure to knit” – Fiona
