Pricing update: I have increased my prices to more accurately represent the work that has gone into the making of my patterns. All my patterns have increased in prices, however my newer designs have increased more than my old ones, as I feel I have learned a lot over the years and the quality of my newer designs is higher. The price listed reflects what I believe is fair for the work put into the design, however I understand that the price increases may be inaccessible to some and am offering some tiered discounts for those that need them.

A “Choose What You Pay” model is available for this pattern, allowing both financial accessibility and fair pricing. The buyer may pay what they are able while still valuing the hard work invested to create this design. Use the codes below in order to pay the price listed after each. Choose whichever price works best for you!

  • No Code – Full Price = $11.00 CAD
  • PK10 – 10% off = $9.90 CAD
  • PK20 – 20% off = $8.80 CAD
  • PK30 – 30% off = $7.70 CAD

I also offer a Buy 3, Get 1 Free discount! Add any 4 of my patterns to your cart, and use the code BUY3GET1 to get the 4th pattern free! Note: the free pattern will be the lowest priced pattern.

The Barbie Box Shawl is a super fun shawl/wrap design created in collaboration with the 2023 Barbie Advent boxes from Pasley Knits. The yarn represents all the fun bright colours from the Barbie movie, and I wanted the design to reflect that fun creative vibe! This design uses a full skein and 12 minis (though you can use more minis or multiple full skeins instead). The shawl is a triangle shaped shawl that is made up of 16 small triangles in different colours. The smaller triangles are knit up using intarsia, so there is no seaming or picking up stitches required!

Size:
One Size - approximately 60” wingspan and 30” depth
Note: The size of your project may vary a little depending on your gauge/tension and the stretchiness and drape of your yarn, but it should be close to this if your gauge matches.

Needles recommended:
3.5 mm / US 4 with a 60” cord
Note: You may need other size needles to meet gauge.

Gauge (blocked):
Worked flat in garter stitch.
4” x 4” = 24 sts x 48 rows
Make sure to block your swatch, as this can significantly change the size of your swatch depending on your fiber choice. Keep in mind that the weight of the finished shawl may add a little extra stretch.

Yarn recommended:
Any fingering/sock weight yarn that you can get gauge with.
I used Pasley Knits Salty Fingering - 437 yds per 100g skein/87 yds per 20g mini, in the 2023 Barbie Advent colourways. I used the full skein for 4 of the smaller triangles, plus 12 minis for the remaining 12 triangles. You could use 16 minis instead, or a couple full skeins.

Yardage recommended:
Approximately 15 g/65 yds per triangle (16 total triangles) = 1040 yds total
Note: If you are using skeins that have a different yardage/weight than the sample yarn, go by the yardage estimate above, not the grams.

If using the Pasley Knits Barbie Box (or similar advent/countdown with a full skein and a selection of 12 (or more) minis:
Full skein (4 triangles)- approximately 60 g/260 yds for 4 triangles
Mini skein (1 triangle) - approximately 15 g/65 yds per triangle (12 triangles total)

Note: Yardage is an approximation and is calculated using the recommended size and gauge. Yardage can vary depending on your gauge and knitting, so I always recommend having a little bit extra in case you require more yardage.

Modification options:
To make a smaller shawl, more of a neck scarf, you could omit the 4th row of triangles and only use 9 minis.

To use up remaining scraps of your minis, you could make 3 tassels and attach them to the 3 corners of your shawl.

Add an I-cord or crochet edge around the entire shawl for an outline.
