Interpretations Vol. 8 is here! This year brings you the charming 8th collaboration between Joji Locatelli and Veera Välimäki. This collection includes six themes, six words with two designs inspired by each word, showing a personal take on each of these themes.

In 2021 we continued to work together virtually. We found this to be a great opportunity to show you a bit of our home countries. We did the photoshoots separately in our respective major cities: Helsinki and Buenos Aires. Joji’s pictures are taken by Claudia Salazar, Veera’s by Jonna Jolkin.

I feel like pace is always fluid and in motion, like in a piece of music, changing from day to day, from one performance to the next. The slow start of a first rehearsal will slowly accelerate to perfect opening-night tempo. I love to see the rhythm through my knitting projects. The start of a project often feels leisurely and easygoing, then suddenly I catch myself moving into a quick, determined pace as I’m excited to see the result.

The Baroque Shawl is a stunning half-pi shawl with brioche, stripes and even a little bit of lace – all good things for a delightful shawl. It works with the rhythm of a half-circle, with increases adding a new texture to each phase. The shawl is knitted at a lofty gauge to ensure a wonderfully comfortable result.

Finished measurements of the shawl: 80” 200 cm wingspan and 32” 80 cm deep. See schematics below.

Yarn: 4 skeins of Singles by Life in the Long Grass (100% SW Merino; 400 yds 366 m / 100 g); 2 skeins each MC and CC. Approx. 1120 yds 1030 m of fingering-weight yarn; 580 yds 530 m in MC and 540 yds 500 m in CC. Sample shown in colors Baroque (MC, burgundy) and Crush (CC, lilac speckle).
Needles: US 6 4 mm circular needles, 32” 80 cm long or longer.
Other: Stitch marker, tapestry needle, crochet hook and waste yarn for provisional cast-on, and blocking aids. Optional but recommended: Row counter.

18 sts and 36 rows = 4” 10 cm in garter stitch, after blocking.
