Basecamp Tank is worked at a loose gauge in fluffy DROPS Air on US 10 needles, creating an airy, lofty fabric with a soft halo, beautiful drape, and stitches that look just a little wild in the best way.

Inspired by mountain landscapes, campfires, and long weekends outdoors, Basecamp pairs bold geometric colorwork with a relaxed silhouette you’ll wear now through fall. It’s equal parts laid-back, graphic, and unmistakably handmade.

Design Details

Basecamp Tank is designed with an easy, relaxed fit that’s made for layering through the changing seasons. The loose gauge and fluffy alpaca blend create a soft, airy fabric with beautiful drape, while giving the colorwork room to breathe.

The result is stitches with a slightly organic, lived-in look that perfectly suits the relaxed, outdoorsy character of the design.

Pattern Highlights

  • Seamless top-down construction
  • Relaxed fit with 2–6” (5–15 cm) of positive ease
  • Lightweight geometric colorwork
  • Duplicate stitch shoulder accents with step-by-step video tutorial
  • Easily customizable body length
  • Quick-to-knit oversized gauge on US 10 needles

Construction Overview

Basecamp Tank is worked seamlessly from the top down.

The front shoulders are worked flat with neckline shaping before joining across the front neck. Colorwork continues down the front to the armholes.

Stitches for the back are then picked up at the shoulders and worked flat with back neck shaping to match the front.

Once the armhole depth is complete, the body is joined and worked seamlessly in the round to your desired length.

The neckline and armholes are finished by picking up stitches and working ribbing in the round. Lastly, duplicate stitch is added to the front shoulders for an extra pop of color.

Yarn Notes

Our samples are knit in DROPS Air, it’s blown construction creates an incredibly lightweight lofty fabric with a soft halo and relaxed drape. Worked at a loose gauge, the stitches bloom after blocking into a fabric that’s airy, cozy, and perfect for layering.

DROPS Air

  • 65% Alpaca, 28% Polyamide, 7% Wool
  • 164 yds (150 m) per 50g ball

Sample Colorways

  • Main Color: 02 Wheat
  • Contrast Color 1: 54 Sweet Apricot
  • Contrast Color 2: 22 Yellow
  • Contrast Color 3: 10 Fog

We recommend blown yarns or lightweight worsted/bulky yarns that comfortably achieve gauge. Smooth yarns can certainly be substituted, but they’ll create a denser fabric with less loft, halo and a different drape.
