Basic Socks

Pattern description from Knitting for Dummies: “Socks are one of the most satisfying things to make - easy enough to be fun to work, but tricky enough to be interesting. And they’re relatively quick to make. The pattern I offer here is very basic. If you can knit in the round and decrease and you know how to pick up stitches, you can make them.”
Sizes: For a baby, child, woman, and man
Materials: 1 (1, 2, 2) 3.5-ounce (100-gram) skeins (each approximately 200 yards) of Harrisville Highland-Style Knitting Yarn; one set of 5 size 7 double-pointed needles.
Note: “You can make these socks in a solid color or work stripes in the leg and the heel sections (2 and 3) and the tow (6) in a different color.”
No gauge given for this project.
I tried altering the pattern by adding a few stitches in the beginning, not a good move. Had to decrease along the leg, making the first sock a bit ruffly in the leg. I wear size ten womens shoes and the man’s size sock fits me well.
The pattern is really very simple, and after 2 or 3 tries I taught myself the heels from using just the book.
This is really a very easy beginner sock pattern, and I carry this book around with me everywhere I knit as it is a very good bible of knitting.
