Many baskets can be made from this pattern. I wanted to organize my yarn in some baskets on my shelves, and did not want the yarn to get dusty, so I made these baskets with lids! The tall baskets I made have a base with a diameter of 8 in (20 cm) and a height of 9.5 in (24 cm). The small baskets without the lids have the same base, but a height of 3.5 in (9 cm). On the last page of this pattern, I explain the recipe for the baskets, so you can adjust the size as needed!
I used The Tape yarn by We Are Knitters which is a t-shirt yarn. It is 100% recycled cotton. T-shirt yarn works perfectly for baskets as it is very thick and stiff, so the sides of the basket keep their shape (even without anything inside of them)! Each of the solid color tall baskets with a lid requires a little less than two skeins of The Tape.
Any t-shirt yarn will work well for this pattern. Another good option would be Ribbon from Hobbii Yarn.
Additionally, you can really use any yarn for these baskets with the appropriate hook size as I have explained how to adapt the pattern below to make baskets of any size. If you are using a lighter yarn, you may want to hold it double stranded and use a larger hook size. Just remember, if the yarn is not t-shirt yarn, the sides of the basket may not be very sturdy.
You can also add some color changes or attach some appliques to your baskets if you would like!
The pattern includes some pictures to demonstrate how to create the handle on the lid. I hope you enjoy the pattern!
