This pattern was inspired by a half-remembered door on a building from the 1920s in New York City.

The Bathymetry Hat is great for learning how to cable and mosaic knit in the same project. As it is knit in the round, there are no right and wrong sides to deal with. All of the cables are simple two-stitch twists. The cables pop as they are knit in a single color over the top of the Garter Stitch and Reverse Stockinette Stitch background, which has a kind of marled effect from the striping colors. The mosaic stitch pattern is written and charted.
