DESCRIPTION
BAY is your dream all-weather sweatshirt, whether you’re getting cozy at home or being tousled by a crisp ocean breeze. This relaxed fit pullover features dolman sleeves, uninterrupted stockinette on the front and back panels, and decorative 3-needle bind offs, making for a simple, seamless knit with a clean, modern look. The pattern includes 9 sizes, 6 original video tutorials, technical illustrations for understanding the unique construction, and detailed guidance for choosing your size and adjusting the sleeves.
SIZING
All of my garment patterns are #sizeinclusive to fit up to at least a 60” full bust circumference.
FINISHED BUST/CHEST CIRCUMFERENCE:
In inches: (38, 42, 46) [50, 54, 58] {62, 66, 70}
In centimeters: (95, 105, 115) [125, 135, 145] {155, 165, 175}
To choose your size, measure the circumference of your torso around the fullest part of your bust/chest and add at least 6”/15cm.
Note about ease:
Because of the dolman sleeves and relaxed fit, BAY works with an extremely wide range of positive ease (anything from 6-20”/15-50cm). If you prefer more drape or a more oversized fit, feel free to size up! In the photos, Jacqui is wearing a size 7 (62”/155cm). Her bust circumference is 54”/135cm, her waist circumference is 49”/122.5cm, and her bicep circumference is 20”/50cm.
To see how BAY looks across the size range with varying amounts of ease, check out the test knitting round up here!
GAUGE, NEEDLES, NOTIONS
Gauge: 16 sts and 28 rows over 4”/10cm in stockinette after blocking
Recommended needles:
- Main needles: US 6 (4 mm) 40”/100cm circular
- Smaller needles: US 4 (3.5mm) 40”/100cm circular and DPNs for cuffs if not using magic loop
Notions: darning needle, st holders or scrap yarn, spare needles in same or smaller size than main needles (for 3-needle bind off), 1 stitch marker (for marking BOR for working cuffs in the round), locking stitch markers (for keeping track of short rows)
YARN
This sweater was designed in Magpie Fibers Equinox (184 yards/168 meters/115g), a 65% silk/35% linen blend with a tight ply and incredibly soft hand. This yarn makes for a luxurious, all-weather sweater with a lovely sheen and drape.
YARN REQUIREMENTS:
Skeins of Equinox: (5, 5, 6) [6, 6, 6] {7, 7, 8}
Yards: (825, 875, 925) [975, 1025, 1075] {1150, 1225, 1300}
Meters: (755, 800, 845) [890, 935, 985] {1050, 1120, 1190|
Other suitable yarns:
Because the recommended yarn is a silk/linen blend, I am recommending mostly substitutions that also include linen and/or silk, so as to achieve a similar sheen/drape. However, many test knitters made beautiful versions from cotton blend yarns (such as Knit Picks Comfy) or 100% wool yarns (such as Malabrigo Rios), which are more widely available at generally lower price points than linen/silk.
