Bean friend is a little friend that can knit while you work! He is inspired by the bean guy in the Focus Friend app, who knits socks while the app is running.

The bean friend in the photos is made with about 50 yards of worsted weight yarn for the body, with embroidered face and details. The little sock uses fingering weight yarn.

Bean friend is made in the round (on magic loop or double pointed needles). First you make the body from the bottom up, using either a circular cast-on or just a regular cast-on that you sew up later. Arms and legs are made separately and sewed on.

Bean friend is stuffed with poly-fil stuffing and an optional little pouch of beanbag material (such as plastic pellets) to help him sit upright.

The sprig of leaves is knitted directly from the top of the head (you pick up one stitch) and can be done with either a crochet hook or knitting needles.

For his little sock, this pattern gives instructions to customize the free pattern Teeny Tiny Sock by Winwick Mum.

Construction of the bean himself is simple—his body, arms, and legs are all tubes shaped with a few increases and decreases. The pattern gives detailed instructions on how to assemble him and create his little details like the leaf sprig, the embroidered face, and, yep, the embroidered butt crack.

I hope you all have as much fun making your bean friends as I did :)
