Changing the yarn and needles you use to knit a project can make a tremendous difference in size, as these bears show! Play with the yarn you have in your stash to make bears of all different heights. Dresses can be knit in any color to provide even more customization ideas. Suitable for all ages.
Skill Level Experienced
Yarn Weight 4 and 1
Finished Size Large bear: 6 ¾ “ tall. Small bear: 4 ¼ “ tall. Yarn Large bear: Cascade Yarns Cascade 220 Superwash (100% superwash wool; 220 yd 200 m/3 ½ oz 100 g): #910A winter white (MC) and #1986 purple hyacinth (CC1), 1 ball each. Small bear: Cascade Yarns Heritage (75% superwash merino wool, 25% nylon; 437 yd 400 m/3 ½ oz 100 g): #5618 snow (white; MC) and #5649 iris (purple; CC1), 1 skein each.
Needles Large bear: Size 4 (3.5 mm): set of double-pointed (dpn). Small bear: Size 0 (2 mm): set of dpn. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions Markers (m); stitch holder; polyester fiberfill; small amount of black fingering-weight yarn; tapestry needle.
Gauge Large bear: 22 sts and 29 rnds = 4” in St st, before stuffing. Small bear: 35 sts and 45 rnds = 4” in St st, before stuffing.
