18 sts x 26 rows to 10 cm (4 in) square measured over st st using 5 mm (US 8) knitting needles once blocked.

This design has an interesting construction. The fronts and shawl collar section is knitted first. The back is then picked up and knitted down to the hem. The sleeves are picked up and knitted out at the side edges, the garment is then joined to create side and sleeve seams.
The Shawl cardigan can also be turned upside down and worn with the lace chain motif at the hem as illustrated in the additional photographs.
