Bed Socks (crocheted)
The specified tension is to be obtained with a ‘medium crochet hook’ using 2 strands of Greenock Super Fingering or Camel Hair 4-ply, held double, if Greenock Double Knitting is not available. Judging by the tension listed, the latter is clearly a much heavier weight yarn than modern DK.
Quantities suggested are 4oz of Super Fingering/Camel Hair used double, or else 4oz of Double Knitting.
At the stated tension the pattern is designed for a 10-inch foot and a 10-inch leg length. It is worked from the bottom of the foot upwards as a single T-shaped piece which is then sewed together in a continuous seam starting at the heel and then running along the bottom of the foot, back from the toe along the centre of the top, and then up the front of the leg. A long crochet chain is laced through the stitches at the ankle and tied in a bow at front.
