“Byke” is an old Scots word for a bee-hive and the hexagonal stitch patterns in the Bee-Byke Shawl, inspired by traditional Shetland lace stitches, reflect the differently-sized worker and drone sections of a honeycomb.

Bee-Byke is a top-down triangular shawl combining two garter stitch lace patterns and a garter stitch lace edging, which is knitted on after the body of the shawl is complete. Lace patterning on both right- and wrong-side rows combined with easily memorisable repeats make this an intermediate level pattern.

The size of the shawl can easily be adjusted and instructions are included in the pattern. The sample was knitted using 1 skein of Eden Cottage Yarns Titus Lace.

The pattern contains both charts and written instructions.
