Beira Stole
This long rectangular stole features an undulating wave pattern at the edges, with a central diamond-shape outlined with cables and a textured slip-stitch pattern. It is available in two sizes - 10” x 75” and 16” x 75” after blocking. The original was worked in Snowshoe Farm Alpacas 100% DK-weight alpaca, but any heavy sportweight or DK weight yarn with a nice drape will substitute nicely. You will need approximately 650 yards for the smaller version and 1100 yards for the larger version. Sample is shown in the smaller 10 x 75” size.
The inspiration for this design is Beira, the Scottish Goddess of Winter. Legend has it that, during the spring thaw, as she sat in the mountains, she took her hammer, smashing through the mountaintops, allowing the snow melt to run down into the valley below, creating Loch Ness.
The pattern is available as a stand-alone piece, and is also included in Legendary Knits, volume 2, released in Spring 2014.
