This sweater is called Beirut, not precisely because of the capital of Lebanon, although indirectly. I designed and knitted this sweater listening the music of Zach Condon and his band Beirut, which was named in honor of said capital, because of the horrible conflicts that have occurred there and that have moved Condon, but also because of its oriental musical influences (among others). With all the respect that the band deserves, I think that this garment is like their music, a party that is at times happy, at times melancholic; romantic and tragic and at the same time colorful and folkloric. I hope I have been able to capture a little of the beauty of the contrasts that Beirut offers us, with dissimilar and contrary colors, but together they sing a sharp melody, almost a lament.
This sweater is knitted in the round from the top down, starting with a corrugated rib for the collar and continuing through the yoke, working short rows to lift the back of the sweater. A Stranded Colorwork design is worked on the entire yoke of the garment, and then continue knitting the body and sleeves separately, in the round and from the top down. Finally, corrugated ribs are worked for the hem and cuffs.

Sizes: 1, 2, 3 (4, 5, 6) 7, 8 equivalent to 100, 110, 120 (130, 140, 160) 170, 190 cm of chest circumference (finished measurements) with 20 - 25 cm of positive ease. (sample shown in size 2, in a body of 84 cm of chest circumference and 21 cm of positive ease).

Gauge: 24 sts x 32 rows = 10 cm, measured over St st and larger needles, after blocking.

MC (Neon coral): approx 1020, 1100, 1260 (1420, 1580, 1730) 1980, 2050 meters of fingering and lace weight yarn (held together).
CC1 (Mint): approx 100, 130, 160 (190, 220, 280) 310, 340 meters of of fingering and lace weight yarn (held together).
CC2 (deep teal): approx 100, 130, 160 (190, 220, 280) 310, 340 meters of of fingering and lace weight yarn (held together)

Note: you can replace yarn held together with Sport or even DK weight yarn.

Needles:
3.75 mm circular needles, with a cable of 80 cm, for the body.
3.5 mm needles with a cable of 80 cm for the hem.
For all needle sizes consider needles suitable for working small circumferences in the round.
Always use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.

Notions: 1 stitch marker for BOR, stitch markers for colorwork motif (optional), tapestry needle, stitch holders or scrap yarn, pins and mats for blocking.

Este sweater se llama Beirut no precisamente por la capital del Líbano, aunque sí de forma indirecta. Diseñé y tejí este sweater escuchando la música de Zach Condon y su banda Beirut, que fue bautizada en honor a dicha capital, por los horribles conflictos que allí han ocurrido y que han conmovido a Condon, pero también por sus influencias musicales orientales (entre otras). Con todo el respeto que la banda me merece, creo que esta prenda es como su música, una fiesta a ratos alegre, a ratos melancólica; romántica y trágica a la vez que colorida y folklórica. Espero haber podido plasmar un poco de la belleza de los contrastes que Beirut nos propone, con colores disímiles y contrarios, pero que juntos cantan una melodía aguda, casi un lamento.
Este sweater está tejido en redondo de arriba hacia abajo, comenzando por un elástico corrugado para el cuello y siguiendo por el canesú, trabajando vueltas cortas para levantar la parte trasera del mismo. Un diseño de Jaquard o Stranded Colorwork es trabajado en toda la pechera de la prenda, para luego continuar tejiendo el cuerpo y las mangas por separado, en redondo y de arriba hacia abajo. Finalemte se tejen elásticos corrugados para la pretina y los puños.

Muestra: 24 p x 32 vtas = 10 cm, medido sobre punto jersey y las agujas más grandes, después del bloqueo.

Para todos los tamaños de aguja considera agujas aptas para tejer circunferencias pequeñas.
Siempre utiliza el tamaño de aguja con el que logres conseguir la muestra indicada.
