I discovered Twilight on December 1, 2007. I picked the paperback up on a whim as I checked out at the local discount store, basically because I anticipated having a bit of vacation time on my hands at the end of the month, and also because I hadn’t read anything new and good since the seventh Harry Potter book came out. I mentally prepared myself to be disappointed with the series, so I didn’t pick up the sequels at the time. There was no way that Twilight could live up to all of the hype that surrounded it, right? WRONG.

I started reading that night after I put my kids in bed, and I finished it in less than four hours. Before I could even think about getting to a store and buying New Moon, I had to read Twilight again. It was at this point that I wished there was something I could knit that was Twilight related, so I searched the internet for patterns. I didn’t find much, and what I did find I thought was a little too “young” for my taste.

I wanted to knit something that would whisper “I love Twilight” to those who were familiar with the book, but that would also look sophisticated and would be wearable on a daily basis. Think of them as gloves with a secret life. To the uninitiated, these look like basic fingerless gloves with a fancy crescent design on the hand. To those who are “in the know” about Twilight, though, the gloves reveal their true design: a representation of Bella’s scar from James’s bite.

I’ve had a few questions as to why I chose to knit the gloves in a rich blueberry color. Edward prefers Bella in blue, so that’s my rationale. :)

The larger needle is used to insure a stretchy bind off. If you already bind off loosely, you may not need the larger needle.

You will use all but a few yards of one skein of Merino Style. Be sure to buy more yarn if you are worried you might run out!
