Beltain is the traditional name for May Day in Scotland.
Many girls believe that washing the face with the first dew of May will make them even more beautiful.

This shawl is a play on colours and textures, using 4ply or fingering weight yarns and three different stitch patterns to great effect. The pattern is ideal for those who like to experiment with different yarn combinations.

It is knitted from the top down, starting with a simple wrap stitch pattern. A two colour slip stitch border separates the final stylized flower lace pattern from the main body of the shawl.

Two skeins of 400 yds (365m) of fingering/4ply weight yarns will make a good sized shawl approx. 67” wide and 34” deep (170cm x 85cm).

1 skein Fyberspates Scrumptious 4ply, 55% Merino, 45% Silk , 399 yds (365m) per 100 grams, in col. 303, Oyster.

1 skein Fyberspates Scrumptious 4ply, 55% Merino, 45% Silk , 399 yds (365m) per 100 grams, in col . 309, Midnight.

Yarns from different yarn companies can be combined successfully, as long as they match in weight as shown with the purple shawl:

2 balls Debbie Bliss Rialto 4ply, 100% Merino, 198 yds (180m) per 50g, col. 220, purple.

1 skein Wollmeise Twin, 80% Merino Superwash, 20% Polyamid, handdyed, 510 yds (466m) per 150g, col. Lavendel.

Knitting skills: left and right angled decreases, double centred decreases, slip stitches. Should be suitable for advanced beginners.
