Bernadette
Bernadette is a sport weight beanie designed in honor of the new puppy my friend just adopted!
This design starts by working the band flat to the desired size. Then the cast on and bind off edges are joined. The pattern is written to be sewn; however, you could use a provisional cast on and join the 2 edges using a 3 needle bind off if you do not wish to sew edges together. The bottom ribbing is then worked by picking up stitches and working K2P2 rib. The crown is worked by picking up stitches and working K2tog decreases. The band features little texture doggie bones and lace paw prints interspersed in a lattice “fence” design.
Please resist the urge to slip the first/last stitch(es) on this band as it will make it very difficult to pick up the appropriate number of stitches for the ribbing and crown. In order to create the visible line of horizontal stitches you will need to pick up those stitches between the first and second stitch on each edge. If you have slipped stitches you will not have enough spaces available for those picked up stitches. To aid in picking up stitches, consider placing a removable stitch marker at some point on the increase edge.
Instructions for the main body are both written and charted.
