The hat is worked in the round, and requires circular or double-pointed needles.
The pattern is worked with three different colors of aran weight yarn: two solids and one variegated. All the colors are worked with two strands of yarn held together. The yardage requirements for the individual colors are as follows, with the larger size in parentheses:
- Color A: 300 (360) yds
- Color B: 150 (180) yds
- Color C: 180 (200) yds
The orginal pattern used the following colors of Liisu Yarns Merike’s Hand Dyed yarn:
Large size
- Color A = Nutmeg
- Color B = Variegated Green
- Color C = Blueberry
Medium size
- Color A = Coriander Purple
- Color B = Variegated Green
- Color C = Magenta/Purple/Rose
