Beveridge's Gloves
These gloves are inspired by vintage kid leather gloves, the kind you find worn in the 1940s and 1950s and earlier. I had the perfect, small, 1940s vintage buttons to use, and just 6 of them! The long, buttoned cuff is worked with a mohair blend lace yarn held together with the wool/silk light fingering yarn, to give a nice contrast color as well as a warm fuzzy cuff. An I-cord edge gives the bottom edge a polished finish. The mohair is then dropped for the hands, leaving just the wool/silk yarn which makes the fabric there silky smooth. I had thought to work some embroidery on the back of the cuff and hand since there is a nice blank canvas there, and I may still do so later. Feel free to embellish them as well yourself if you wish! I attended a Regency Ball while finishing the knitting on these, so I’ve named them after one of the English Country dances we danced there—Mr. Beveridge’s Maggot. Gloves are a necessity during a Regency Ball, don’t you know, and these would have made the perfect accessory.
