A friend at knitting group wanted to knit a shawl using kid silk but didn’t like the idea of working with a lace weight yarn on it’s own. I was making a sample garment with Kid Silk stranded with some Palila and showed her how pretty it looked. From then we discussed ideas and came up with three ‘Wardrobe Classics’ from one basic pattern. A simple biased scarf, a rectangular wide wrap and a V shaped shawl.

The basic scarf uses a simple eyelet pattern over two rows and has simple Knit, YO, K2tog and Purl stitches. No fancy twists, cables or crossovers. It’s a beginner knit.

The rectangular wrap uses the same basic idea but the pattern is over four rows, to create the rectangular shape rather than a ‘bias’ fabric.

The V shawl, is a wider version of the scarf, which uses the bias pattern one way for half the length, then swaps to move the shaping the other way. Very easy and yet really effective. Great to jazz up that little black dress, or even with jeans for the school run.

Bias Scarf used 1 ball of Kid Silk and 1 ball of Palila, if a wider scarf is required you may need a second ball of Kid Silk
Rectangular Wrap used 2 balls Kid Silk and 1 ball of Palila.
V Shawl/Scarf used 1 ball of Kid Silk and 1 ball of Palila when made the same width as the scarf, if you wish to make it same width as the rectangular wrap you will need 2 balls of Kid Silk and 1 of Palila.

Notions: tape measure, tapestry needle to weave in ends, scissors, 6mm needles
