*NOTE: On September 25, 2021, the Bibble Babble Beanie becomes part of Northfield Yarn Shop’s collection: Make One: Selected Patterns from the First 10 Years of Northfield Yarn in celebration of the shop’s 10th anniversary. The full collection is available in print at the shop and online at NorthfieldYarn.com. The purchase of the printed collection includes digital copies of ALL the patterns in the collection. Digital copies of some of the individual patterns are available for purchase following the link to the Ravelry collection given above.
The Bibble-Babble Beanie is a beginning crochet-in-the-round project that uses a repeating, easy-to-learn 5-round stitch pattern to add some interest to the main part of the hat.
The sample hat shown in the pictures was created using SweetGeorge Superwash Worsted. Any worsted weight yarn that produces a similar gauge could be substituted.
This hat is worked in a continuous spiral round. The size of the hat will depend on several factors: weight of the yarn and other characteristics of the chosen yarn, as well as your stitch tension (gauge). The given gauge and yarn produced a hat that was approximately 20” in brim circumference and 8.5” high. It should fit an adult with a 21”-22” head.
You can adjust the circumference easily by changing the number of increase rounds (top crown). The height of the hat depends on the number of rounds worked on the same number of stitches after the increase rounds … fewer rounds = shorter sides; more rounds = longer sides and/or more “slouch”
I do not provide a chart of different-sized hat measurements in this pattern, but there are many places online where you can find that information, if you need to adjust the size of the hat.
