She tucked her legs up beneath her on the faded velvet couch. Intoxicating, the smell of books. Fresh books of acidic, cleanly printed ink, aged books of dust and antiques. Opening the cover of a story felt like stepping into a new world. Each line, every single word on that page was a journey, gently whisking her up and away like a brightly patterened hot air balloon. The tale made reality seem like those houses on the ground-small, and not quite as urgent as before. It was a new experience, a golden horizon that widened as the sun set over each chapter. Steep mountains of obstacles, rich valleys of tumbling conflicts and adventures at every turn. Protagonists sharing wisdom through their own chronicles, merely by exisiting. Each part of the book was a different home- new and yet…familiar. Insight shared through feelings resting deep in our souls. Perhaps we are not alone after all, in our yearning for comfort, our fear of being alone, our desire for adventure…and that is the beauty of the written story- we find each other and ourselves in ink on a page.
