Big Ribbed Wrap
Warm, soft, and almost weightless, the Big Ribbed Wrap makes a dramatic fashion statement in any of the 9 colorways available. This keyhole-style rectangular wrap lends itself to wearing in a variety of ways, too, for more versatility. Simply drape around shoulders and pass one end through the keyhole-- a stole that stays on. Play with where you start wrapping, and how you use the keyhole…. and the variations are almost endless. One customer in my yarn shop used the keyhole as an armhole, and made a really dramatic, assymetrical statement!
The knitting is easy and fast on super large needles. This allows the beautiful halo of the yarn to really show off, and gives the whole wrap its weightless quality. Simple knit 5, purl 5 ribbing is the basic stitch pattern, with a wide, two-row buttonhole worked in about 1/3 of the way up the rectangle.
A 32” circular needle is recommended because of the number of stitches, but the project is worked entirely in rows, from one short end of the rectangle to the opposite end. One size will fit most women, but it’s easy to either knit fewer or more rows to change the length (the sample is shown on a woman 5’8” tall, and 30 yards of yarn remained on the ball, which could be used to make it longer if needed). To make a narrower or wider wrap, simply change the cast-on number of stitches by a multiple of 10 stitches. Each 10-stitch group adds or subtracts approximately 4 inches of width.
This pattern was designed for the 2019 East Tennessee Yarn Crawl, and has been tested by several local knitters. It will be offered for free for the first week, to allow those who received it in print as a Yarn Crawl gift to add it to their Ravelry libraries. Price will be $3.75 thereafter.
