Worsted weight wool worked in an op-art twisted-stitch motif gives this felted bag a decidedly mod look. Tone it up or down with your choice of fabric lining and sturdy purchased handles. Domed button “feet” reduce wear on the bottom and make it extra practical for toting around town!

Pattern includes charted instructions ONLY for tall and small versions of the bag. (With purchase of this pattern, you’ll also be able to download a second, separate PDF with just the chart, formatted on 11 x 17” paper for easier viewing.)

Instructions for a simplified version of the lining are available on my blog.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Do not overfelt this bag! All yarns behave differently when heated and agitated. Sometimes two colors of the same brand of yarn will even felt at completely different rates. Check often when you’re felting, and make sure you stop when you still have some stitch definition left! You can always throw it back in and felt it a little more later if you want, but you can’t UNFELT it if you’ve overdone it.

YARN REQUIREMENTS

Small bag uses 2 1/2 skeins Cascade 220 (100% wool; 220 yds/100g skein)—or about 500 yds of comparable worsted weight wool—in color 8010 (Natural). Tall bag uses 3 skeins of Cascade 220 in color 9452 (Summer Sky),
or about 650 yds of comparable worsted.

SUPPLIES
You’ll also need about 1/2 yd fabric and the same amount of heavy-duty interfacing for the lining, plastic mesh for reinforcing the bottom, 4 dome-shaped buttons for the feet, and a pair of purse handles.
