Meet Bindle Hat

You know those yarn bits too pretty to toss but too small to star in a project? Here’s their moment. Bindle Hat is a stashbusting adventure that turns fingering-weight scraps into a thick, textural fabric using the Latvian braid technique (video tutorial included!).

Each “color” in the design is created by holding four strands together. Go ahead, mix that neon speckle with your moody fade. Our video tutorial makes it easy to pull the best combinations from your stash. The result is a cozy, one-of-a-kind hat with mesmerizing texture and endless color possibilities.

Video tutorials walk you through every step, from choosing and changing colors to creating the Latvian braid and binding off. With sizes for toddlers through adult large, Bindle Hat is one you’ll want to knit for everyone on your list and maybe twice for yourself.

Construction Overview

Bindle Hat begins with a 1x1 ribbed brim worked in the round for a snug, cozy fit. The body of the hat is knit flat, from brim to crown, using a modified Latvian braid technique that produces a striking, woven effect.

Short rows shape the crown for a comfortable fit, then the body is seamed using a three-needle bind-off and the top is cinched closed.

Construction Notes:

  • Knit brim in the round, 1x1 ribbing.
  • Body worked flat using modified Latvian braid.
  • Short rows shape the crown.
  • Seamed using three-needle bind-off.
  • Crown gathered to finish.
