In creating the Birds in Flight blanket, I had in mind a subtle tonal pattern that would create an almost herringbone appearance. I love playing with colors in ways that transcend simple stripes, and I think that using two colors that are tonally related or are a closely related gradient creates a striking yet sophisticated appearance. I was attracted to the chevron pattern because it seemed to create a sense of movement across and down the blanket, and it makes the pattern on the reverse as attractive as the front. The movement reminds me of the pattern that birds make in the sky when they line up in intersecting “V” patterns and the entire flock flies together.

I used US 11s to give the blanket a great deal of drape, which works well with Quince & Co Osprey’s natural loft and bounce. When wet blocked, the stitches bloom and fill in the spaces, creating a lofty yet warm throw.

The length and width of the blanket can be easily altered.*
