I have been coveting the yarn I used for these mitts for months. I finally bought a ball and had so much fun finding just the right stitch pattern to show off the halo. It had to have just enough pop to not be obscured, and yet have texture and zing. In deference to the name of the stitch pattern, I decided to call these the Blackout Mitts.

This pattern is meant for an adventurous novice to advanced knitter. Please read the entire pattern before beginning.

Yarn: 1 skein Blacker Swan, Falkland Islands Wool DK, 100% New Wool, 119 yards, 50 grams, Balsam Bog

Needle: US 6 (2.25 mm) Clover Bamboo Double Pointed Needles (DPNs) or needles to obtain gauge

Gauge: 5 stitches per inch (spi) and 7 rows per inch (rpi) OR 20 stitches & 28 rows to 4 inches/10 cm in stockinette

Size: To fit a US women’s medium wrist, approx. 7.5” circumference

To alter the size: Adjust your gauge to increase or decrease the circumference of the mitt as needed.

NOTE: Knit the shorter length to ensure you do not run out of yarn. If you are brave, try the longer length.
