Grab your favorite book and cuddle up by the fire with this log cabin quilt-like interlocking filet crochet afghan, incorporating both diagonals and solid stitches. The design is created in the style of blackwork embroidery, by varying the density of stitches to achieve the look of different fabrics as they radiate from the center of each quilt block. The bold design around the outside edge also creates the look of a quilted border.

This pattern provides both row-by-row written instructions as well as a design chart for reference.

Since this pattern contains many diagonals to create the design, it is recommended for someone who is comfortable with the interlocking filet mesh technique.

If you haven’t tried diagonals on an interlocking filet mesh project yet, you can learn how on my YouTube Channel and follow along with my FREE Interlocking Snowflake Coaster pattern! You can also read about it on my blog!

Finished Size:
Throw (pictured): 53” wide x 60” long (two tiers of quilt blocks)
Afghan: 53” wide x 84” long (three tiers of quilt blocks)

Yardage:

Main Color:
2100 yds. of Bernat Softee Baby (DK) weight yarn was used for the throw, 3000 yds. are needed for the larger afghan.

Contrasting Color:
Hobbii Winter Glow has a variation in thickness from lace weight to worsted weight. A total of 2800 yds. was used for the throw, 4000 yds. is needed for the larger afghan. If a uniform thickness DK weight yarn is used for the contrasting color instead, I recommend 3100 yds. for the throw and 4400 yds. for the afghan.
