I was excited to design this cardi after designing the Blodyn Squares for my Blodyn bucket hat & fell in love with making them! Granny squares are just so satisfying & great for stash-busting! This is a cocoon style cardi/shrug with a relaxed boho vibe, designed to be versioned around the back & arms & draped open at the front.

The pattern has been tech edited & thoroughly tested in every size by a large group of fabulous testers to ensure accuracy & clarity. I have made sure this pattern is as beginner-friendly as possible with a schematic, photos & videos added where visual instruction may be helpful.

Skill level: Adventurous beginner / intermediate.

Materials required:

Yarn: 1396-2130 yards / 1277-1947 metres of light #3 weight acrylic yarn or wool/wool blend.

Hooks: 4mm (G-6) crochet hook or hook needed to obtain gauge.

Notions: Stitch markers, tape measure, tapestry needle & scissors.

Sizing:

The pattern is size inclusive from XS - 5X - full chest circumference 28” - 62” / 71cm - 158.5cm

Finished measurements:

I have included the schematic at the end of the pattern photos. The cardi can easily be modified to make it longer/shorter, wider/narrower.

Construction:

This cocoon style cardi is made up of squares crocheted together to form a large rectangle. The rectangle is then folded in half & the short sides are joined to each other from the outside edge in to a distance from the centre fold to form the armholes. Cuffs & edging are then added to finish.

Gauge:

One granny square should measure 4.5” x 4.5” or 11.5cm x 11.5cm.
