Blue Ridge Lap Throw
From the book “Deep South Knitting” and inspired by the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia. Now available for download. Pattern includes Virginia travel info and Chocolate Toffee Pecan Pie recipe.
In the mostly flat South, the Blue Ridge Mountains are our “purple mountains majesty,” except for the fact they’re more blue and gray than purple. But you know what I mean. The Blue Ridge range runs from Georgia, through the Carolinas, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia, then into Pennsylvania.
This scrumptiously soft lap throw is inspired by those same gorgeous peaks. Two simple decreases create the mountain-shaped wedges. The ombré border evokes the dusky colors of the mountains, and the subtle tone-on-tone designs created in simple reverse stockinette celebrate the flora, fauna and historic cabins of the Blue Ridge’s Shenandoah National Park. This throw is a perfect accompaniment to a snuggling session, even if you’re in Florida with the air conditioning turned up and are just dreaming of the mountains. Unfortunately, the romantic fireplace, hot chocolate and a sexy someone to share it with are not included with the pattern.
