This graphic windowpane plaid scarf is a fun and fashionable way to stay warm through winter’s end. The technique used to create the plaid patterning is smart – knit the horizontal stripes as you go, but insert the vertical stripes as a crochet chain after the knitting is done. The crochet is both basic and supported with two tutorials – pictorial and video – and so much easier than the alternative – eight bobbins! Seed stitch forms an elegant border.

Inspired by Missoni, the bright blue on tonal grays background is a fashion statement. But work it in traditional colors – red on black or gold on green – to make it a classic.

Skills Needed to Successfully Complete This Pattern: crochet cast on (optional), knit, purl, bind off, applied crochet chain stitch
